Editing out what isn't working to make space for what will.
Welcome to The Psych Edit, a psychology practice that sees the person behind the diagnosis and offers a holistic evidenced based approach to psychological issues. My name is Dr Elizabeth Blackwood and after 15 years in clinical practice, I wanted to offer a way of delivering psychological services that not only integrates gold standard psychological treatment for mental illness but also an understanding of all the factors that may be contributing to why you are feeling the way you do. This is why at The Psych Edit, my fellow practitioners and I will examine all aspects of your life and wellbeing. This could encompass factors you might not consciously recognise, stemming from your early experiences, interpersonal connections, how you form emotional bonds, your professional environment, dietary choices, sleep patterns, daily rituals, and overall way of life.
We will then tailor a comprehensive approach to treating your mental health issues in the context of all you are, not just the head space you are in. We treat a range of mental health disorders including anxiety, depression, relational issues and trauma, providing treatment to adults, teenagers, families, and couples.
Taking care of your mental well-being also involves addressing the physiological aspect of your brain. To achieve this, we employ advanced, research-supported methods like Neurofeedback and Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation. These techniques aim to balance your brainwave activity, lessening anxiety and enhancing serotonin production. We aimed to create a portable system for clients to use at home between sessions. Through thorough research, we procured handheld Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation Systems which are available to purchase. These devices send gentle electrical pulses to the brain, regulating beta waves, reducing cortisol (stress hormone), and boosting serotonin (happiness hormone). In less than a week, clients noticed reduced reactivity to distressing thoughts and a greater sense of alignment and lightness.
Our goal is to help you gain insight and understanding into what is happening for you, provide a safe and informed place to help you come to a place of peace and then equip you with the tools to move forward with your life, and take those first steps towards achieving your goals.
We will work with you using effective evidence-based treatment methods, uniquely tailored to you, your preferences and your situation. And as you begin to feel better, we will be there to provide ongoing care and respond to issues as and when they arise.
At The Psych Edit, our primary goal is to assist you in eliminating elements that are impeding your progress, such as unproductive thought patterns, behaviours, or limiting belief systems. We aim to create space for fresh insights and alternative approaches, fostering healing, revitalisation, and the cultivation of your unique strengths.
We achieve this by providing a confidential, safe space. We listen to your concerns, provide a psychological and neurological lens to understand what is happening for you and use this knowledge to customise a treatment plan to reduce your mental suffering and optimise your ability to develop into your best self.
Please reach us at admin@thepsychedit.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
You do not need a mental health care plan to come and see a psychologist but if you do have one, you receive a rebate of approximately $93.35 per session, up to 10 sessions per annum. However, some clients prefer to use their private health insurance, which depending on the plan and the level of cover will pay part of the fee.
This is dependent upon your presenting issues and issues that are revealed during the therapeutic process. In the intense early stages of treatment, you may require weekly appointments but as you begin to feel better, the appointments may be spaced out.
As your psychologist, safeguarding your privacy and maintaining confidentiality are our utmost priorities. Adhering to ethical guidelines, we are committed to ensuring the non-disclosure of the content discussed during our therapy sessions.
However, it's important to be aware of certain limits to confidentiality, which may arise under specific circumstances, including:
Monday 8am to 6pm
Tuesday 9am to 7pm
Wednesday 8am to 6pm
Thursday 9am to 7pm
Friday 11am to 5pm
