Fees and Rebates

At The Psych Edit, we strive to keep our costs affordable so everyone can access support. We can subsidise treatment under the following funding streams:

  1. Mental Health Care Plans from GPs: This enables you to obtain up to 10 sessions per calendar year when you see a psychologist.
  2. Private Health Insurance: Rebates vary between different insurance companies. We typically email private health clients their receipt, and clients make a manual claim through their private health app. We also have an active HICAPS terminal, which allows clients to instantly claim private health insurance if they have their private health card. This means clients only have to pay the remaining GAP fee at the time of their appointment.
  3. NDIS: We welcome both plan managed and self managed clients with NDIS funding to see our psychologists.
  4. We also accept clients supported by Victims Assist, Comcare, and WorkCover.

Standard Session Fees

  • Initial Consultation: $275 per 50-minute session
  • Subsequent Session: $250 per 50-minute session
  • Relationship Counselling: $260 per 50-minute session

Assessment Fees

  • ADHD Assessments: $850, including a $170 non-refundable deposit to be paid at the time of booking
  • ASD Assessments: $1,900, including a $170 non-refundable deposit to be paid at the time of booking
  • Child Cognitive Assessments: $2,200, including a $200 non-refundable deposit to be paid at the time of booking

Medicare Rebates

You may be eligible for Medicare rebates if you have a valid Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) and referral from your General Practitioner (GP), psychiatrist, or paediatrician. This entitles you to rebates for up to 10 individual psychology sessions per calendar year, however you may be required to obtain more than one Mental Health care plan to access all 10 sessions. Please discuss this further with your referring GP.

  • The current Medicare rebate for a registered psychologist is $98.95 (as of July 1 2025).
  • You must provide your MHCP and referral prior to your first appointment to access Medicare rebates.
  • If these documents are not received in advance, you      will be responsible for paying the full session fee with no rebate     processed for that session.

For more information on eligibility and current rebate amounts, please visit the official Medicare website: https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/mental-health-care-and-medicare

How do I get a MHCP?

Step 1: Visit your GP who will determine if you are eligible for a MHCP, based on your symptoms and circumstances. Book a long consultation with your GP as the preparation of a MHCP can take up to 40 minutes.

Step 2: Your GP will refer you for an initial six therapy sessions.

Step 3: After six sessions, you can return to your GP for a Mental Health Review if more sessions are needed.

Step 4: If your GP believes that you would benefit from more sessions, your GP will approve a further four sessions for that calendar year.

Once all ten sessions have been used up in a calendar year, clients are no longer eligible for Medicare rebates until the next calendar year. We accept Private Health as an interim measure, as well as a standalone. Note that Private Health cannot be used in conjunction with Medicare rebates for the same session.
